Once upon a time there were four little rabbits, and their names were - Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail and Peter. Who else gets completely nostalgic just hearing those magical words? This is an excerpt from the classic tale of Peter Rabbit, written by Beatrix Potter in the early 1900s. Just the title itself brings back very fond memories of curling up on my Mum's lap whilst falling in love with the very naughty (yet completely loveable) rabbit on his adventures of mishap and mischief. You may be wondering why I've started this post referring to a children's storybook. Whilst I do enjoy a good blast from the past, there is a reason why my mind is focused on this cute, little rabbit. The stunning Lake District was where Beatrix Potter would spend her holidays, drawing inspiration from the beauty around her for her books about Peter and his friends (including Jemima Puddle Duck and Mrs. Tiggy Winkle - my absolute favourites). My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to spend a long weekend exploring parts of the Lake District. Whilst what we saw was certainly only a snapshot (you could literally spend months exploring), it's easy to see why so this area attracts so many. From the stunning lakes, to the gorgeous country drives, to the friendly locals, to the cutest local pubs ever...visiting this area is an absolute must for ultimate relaxation and tranquility. You need to hire/have a car to make the most of this area, but just be prepared for the tiniest, narrowest, and (at times) the most terrifying roads ever...no exaggerations here! Be sure to take advantage of your cars fully comprehensive insurance policy for any unexpected bumps along the way... Exploring the Lake District has been a priority for me since moving to London, but there was something so special beyond the beautiful scenery that this weekend away sparked in me. It was the memories from my childhood that were brought back to the surface. It was thinking about Beatrix Potter, and her wonderful stories being read to me as a little girl in the comfort of loved ones. It was remembering the many dinners consumed using my 'special' Peter Rabbit ceramic plates, which my Nana to this day still says are an absolute treasure and insists that they are still enjoyed and used. So in the wise words of Beatrix Potter herself, "What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood?" Thank you Beatrix Potter, and in turn, this beautiful area of England, for continuing to inspire so many around the world. Buttermere Lake Buttermere Lake Cockermouth Views over Lake Windermere
