One of my new years resolutions is to get out and explore more pubs in London. Not the touristy places, but really genuine, traditional, English pubs.
Today, we caught an absolute beauty. The Blackfrair is an absolute one of a kind. Right by Blackfriars tube station, the pub is centrally located and easy to get to. As soon as you see it, you will understand why it's a hidden gem. From the outside, it stands 4 stories high, and is only about half a meter wide! It looks like something straight out of Harry Potter. Once inside, it doesn't disappoint, with almost a Roman Catholic church feel to it. Domed roof, elaborate tiles, and proverbs on the wall, it's absolutely stunning once inside. Service was good, but you just need to visit for the beauty of this pub. Definitely stands out as a unique east-end pub. Make sure you try the steak and ale pie - best mash ever! Fun fact: it was due to be demolished but was saved by a campaign led by Sir John Betjeman. Amen to you!
