New Years Eve has always been a time of personal reflection for me. Thinking about all the things that made the year gone by amazing, learning from the events that made the year difficult, and showing gratitude for life, experiences, friends, and family.
Yesterday, I happened to be reflecting whilst pondering the menu of a pub my housemate and I stumbled upon in Holland Park - The Castle. Whilst situated on a main road, the tables are tucked away at the back, away from the hustle and bustle of the street. It had a real English country pub feel to it, with a fireplace, big leather sofas to sit on, and board games to play (for me, the telltale sign of a good pub!). I've lived in London for almost 3 years now, and on the last day of 2015, realised that I was still yet to try the famous and very English scotch egg. To be honest, I'd been avoiding the whole thing - a cooked egg surrounded by sausage meat, then battered and fried...it just didn't tickle my tastebuds. But, seeing as it was the last day of the year, I had a laugh and decided there was no better time to give it a try. And boy am I glad that I did! If you've found the best scotch egg in London, I'd be keen to hear where. Comment away!
