Hot dogs... Growing up in Australia, whenever I think of a hotdog, I am instantly transported to the MCG (the Melbourne Cricket Ground - for those playing at home). Home match of Aussie Rules Football, between the great Richmond and Carlton. Chowing down on my outrageoulsy expensive and totally trashy hot dog, in it's sugar-paked, extra-soft white bun, oozing with tomato sauce. Slop. And there it goes. A big dallop of bright red, sticky tomato sauce, right down the front of my brand new, freshly signed football guernsey (aka. jersey, for those non-Aussies). Sigh. Input instant and forever lasting BAD and soul-destroying memories of hot dogs. Fast forward 20 years later, to December 2016, and here I am in a dilemma. No one loves a food experience more than me, but I am somewhat hesitant about trying this raved about hot dog joint in London, given my previous bad luck, and bad hot dog memories. The thought of them alone makes me break into a cold sweat. What changed my mind? Hearing that not only does Bubbledogs serve hotdogs, but their menu consits of a hot dog smoothered in my new found favourite condiment...mac 'n' cheese. Oh, and did I mention they serve Champagne too? Conveniently located in Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, this area is a hub for great food and unique pop-ups. Upon entering the store, the service of was nothing but excellent. We befriended a fellow Aussie waitress from Sydney who was sweet, attentive, and totally pushing our (already) bulging tummies to the limt. The choice of champagne is endless, but we stuck to the house bottle (Gaston Chiquet), which was pleasantly delcious and didn't completely bust the bank (£38). Next up, the real deal...picking our 'dogs (available in pork, beef and vegetarian) from the extensive menu of heaven. For me, the choice was simple - a hot dog, I could resist, but a hot dog with mac 'n' cheese? You got me. The 'Mac Daddy' brought out the inner 90s hip hop queen in me (or was that the delightful Spotify mix pumping in the background?). Think a skinny pork sausage, with teeny tiny macoroni pasta oozing in cheesy goodness thrown on top. Trashy, but oh so good! Aiden went for the manly 'Buffalo' - a mix of sausage, spicy sauce, and stinky blue cheese. Sweet potato fries and potato tots on the side are a must. Trust me, this is not the time to hold back! From the themed décor in the restaurant, to the unique food and the exceptional service, this was a 10/10 experience that anyone who considers themselves to be a foodie must try. Thank you Bubbledogs for forever changing my outlook on hotdogs. Even though 20 years on, my guernsey still has that bright red stain, because how can you ever wash a signed football jumper with signatures from the greats of the '90s...?!

Peggy Porschen, a chic cake palour in Belgravia, is without doubt a girl's dream come true. From the fairytale entrance... To the impeccably presented cupcakes and cakes... It's almost impossible to choose just one... But when you do, stop to admire your surroundings - it really is what your 6-year old daydreams were made of... Now all that's left... Prince Charming (aka Harry, let's be honest), trotting down the street with his horse-drawn carriage (or luxury Lamborghini, I'm not fussed), bursting through the door of this pretty pink palour, eagerly crying my name and declaring his long-lost love for me (now we know he has a thing for brunettes)... Then this little girl's dream will have well and truly come true. #whereforeartthou? |
